What to do in a Medical Emergency

  • Do what ever is necessary to protect the health of the dog at the moment of the emergency. 
  •  It is mandatory that you contact one of the  IG Rescue STX reps or the vetting coordinator for guidance and permission to treat,. You should already  have the phone numbers of those people programmed into your phone -- keep calling until you reach someone.  Leave messages.  
  • Try not to panic and use common sense.  If the dog is in critical condition and you can't reach any one, take the dog to a vet.  
  • You can call the number of the emergency clinic closest to you to say you are coming in; they may be able to give you immediate advice.
  • Important -- if you email we will not consider  the situation time critical.

Vetting Options

  • The vet who has been caring for the dog while in rescue is the first choice for care.  
  • If the incident occurs during non working hours you may use an emergency clinic.
